THE WHY
Born in the 1950’s and 1960’s three siblings with learning difficulties have come together to challenge the status quo. Born during a time when learning difficulties was frowned upon, it was virtually impossible to be screened or even assessed for such difficulties. Our stories are different, but what we believe is consistent. We believe in change, we believe in challenging the status quo, we believe in thinking differently!
Cheron is Dyscalculic, a learning disorder that is characterized by impairments in learning basic arithmetic facts and processing numerical calculations. In 2006, Cheron decided to voluntarily teach a young man in her local community to read, write and spell. Today, Cheron is a qualified Specialist Teacher/Assessor with over twenty-five years experience supporting and teaching learners with Dyslexia and Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs).
The irony is that Paula, the youngest sibling, struggled with school; she took seven years to complete a three-year degree, and it was out of frustration that she one day complained to Cheron who quickly realized that she might be Dyslexic. After screening, it was confirmed. Cheron then administered interventions that changed Paula’s life forever. Our website was designed and created by Paula, a direct testament that individuals that are neurodivergent have exceptional abilities.
And now you have Keith, diagnosed with ADHD, and proved to be the most difficult of all siblings whilst growing up. ADHD is attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, which manifested itself early in Keith’s life. He was easily distracted, not able to sit still for too long, and struggled to read or sit exams for long periods of time. It was later proved that being passionate about something changed Keith’s perspective and allowed him to become hyper-focused and very positive once stimulated. Mundane tasks and dull people are his kryptonite.
Three siblings with consistent beliefs and yet different stories.
Our goal is to work with individuals and organizations who believe what we believe because people show interest in not what you do, but why you do it.
