Is my child dyslexic?

Screening and Diagnostic Assessments
The SET Foundation follows a step-by-step approach to identify and support learners with dyslexia:

1. Dyslexia Screening
  • The first step is a screening process to determine the probability of dyslexia.
  • Based on the screening results, we provide tailored literacy interventions to address identified challenges.

2. Monitoring Progress
  • If the literacy intervention proves effective, continued support will be provided to strengthen the student’s skills.
  • If significant progress is not made despite intervention, this indicates the need for further investigation.

3. Diagnostic Assessment
  • When interventions do not yield expected results, a Diagnostic Assessment is recommended.
  • Conducted by certified assessors, this formal evaluation identifies dyslexia and provides a detailed understanding of the child’s learning profile.
  • The assessment also outlines strategies and accommodations to help the child succeed.

What a Diagnostic Assessment Provides
  • Learning Style Insights: Identifies how your child learns best and strategies that work or don’t work for them.
  • Skill Evaluation: Assesses reading, spelling, and writing skills to pinpoint challenges.
  • Ability vs. Achievement: Identifies any discrepancy between your child’s general ability and their attainment in reading, writing and comprehension.
  • Other Influencing Factors: Considers additional factors that might affect learning.
  • Reasonable Adjustments: Recommends accommodations to help your child fully access the curriculum and succeed in exams.
